Space Ride

Life has been pretty busy so I haven’t been able to go out and shoot. I did however take my camera with me when I went to catch up with my one friend Ju. She skateboards so I decided to use these shoots for street photography. I know this technically isn’t street shots but skateboarders have been in a lot of street photography culture so I thought I would shift from street photography to skateboarding photography.

The song I chose for this week has no lyrics but it came from a skateboarding TV show called Betty. It’s called Space Ride by Asksa Matsumiya, I showed Ju the song and she told me that to her, this song is what skateboarding feels like. So I wanted to take that and incorporate the song into this set.

Sisters of The Moon

I made the decision to switch food photography week to editorial shoot week. I wanted to create a theme and overall mood for this shoot and I decided to go with a witchy and coven themed shoot since these were taken in the month of October. I didn’t have a song in mind while shooting these but the perfect one came on shuffle.

She asked me
Be my sister, sister of the moon
Some call her sister of the moon
Some say illusions are her game
Wrap her in velvet

Does anyone, ah, know her name
So we make our choices
When there is no choice
And we listen to their voices
Ignoring our own voice

I pulled this set of lyrics from Sister of The Moon by Fleetwood Mac. Like I said, I didn’t have a song in mind while doing this shoot. This song came up on my shuffle as I was editing the photos and the lyrics seemed to match perfectly. Witches are known to have ties with the moon and nature in general and some of the subjects in this photo set were “wrapped in velvet” as the song implies. The witchy theme of this editorial shoot really embodies this song.

Golden Hour

The song I chose for Golden Hour week is conveniently enough called Golden Hour by Kacey Musgraves. The main reason I chose this song is not because of the title but the lyrics.

Baby don't you know?
That you're my golden hour
The color of my sky
You've set my world on fire, yeah
And I know, I know everything's gonna be alright, mhm

I used to get sad
And lonely when the sun went down
It's different now
'Cause I love the light that I've found
In you

The reason why I thought this song was fitting to this photoset was because the friends in my life are my golden hour in the way the song suggests. Someone that makes you feel safe and someone that’ll always remind you that things will be alright. My friends do that for me, they’re my golden hour.

Maniac!

This photoset was shot around October! The inspiration for this shoot was from the film Jennifer’s Body. The product highlighted in this photoset are the artisan acrylic nails. This shoot actually wasn’t meant for product photography week but I noticed my friend’s nails and photographed them anyways. I wanted to take less of a commercial approach to this product shoot and make it more fashion editorial.

The song I chose for this photos set is Maniac! by Conan Gray because I think the lyrics match the photoset and the nails really well.

Tell all of your friends that I'm crazy and drive you mad
That I'm such a stalker, a watcher, a psychopath
And tell them you hate me and dated me just for laughs
So, why do you call me and tell me you want me back?
You maniac

The “bloody” Scream themed nails really matches with this set of lyrics

Technicolour Beat

For this week’s blog post I chose the song Technicolor Beat by Oh Wonder. I asked my cousins what song they recommended in where I could incorporate a lot of colour within the photos I make and one of them suggested this song. There were a few lines that I thought I could interpret in my own way into photos and I also chose to use these vibrant mix of flares and colours because I think it fits the title as a whole and not to mention the words technicolour also appears in the song

Lay down your slow
Come settle down, settle down
Let loose your glow
Come settle down, settle down

….

Jump into the heat, spinning on our feet

In a technicolour beat, you and me
Caught up in a dream, in a technicolour beat

The overall aesthetic of this photoshoot is how I personally think the music video be look like. When I first listened to this song, my initial thought was that it sounded very dreamy. The sounds and beats within the song itself really made me feel like I was floating and saw a bunch vibrant colours. I tried to capture the daydream like feeling I was talking about within the photoset.
